This Week – Battle of Barnet (again!)

Posted in Uncategorized on June 8, 2011 by Mr Davy

Well it has been a great start to our last half term in Year 4. Some very mature attitudes to learning have already been demonstrated. Keep this up!

This week in Numeracy, we have reviewed our understanding of shape. This has included using grid points, quadrant grids and co-ordinates to plot the outlines of shapes. In addition we reviewed symmetry and reflecting shapes in different grid quadrants. Our Literacy focus has been descriptive writing. By focusing on our five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell), we have written descriptive texts to describe various locations within the school as well as imagine what it must have been like on the battlefield in Barnet during Easter Sunday, 1471.

Battle of Barnet

I have been receiving brilliant feedback from the various people who have seen the Battle of Barnet film. It was such a success that I think we should recreate, the more widely known, Battle of Bosworth where King Richard III was defeated by Henry Tudor (who became Henry VII). This will  probably take place toward the end of the term , where we should have more time to  plan, rehearse and record the film.

I am hoping that by having more than 30 minutes to write and rehearse scripts, more children will be confident enough to have speaking parts.

Here a couple of photos taken while filming the battle scene. In addition, see if you recognise the young Blue Tit fledgling!
